AIFF congratulates Uvena Fernandes

New Delhi, July 29 (IBNS) All India Football Federation congratulated Uvena Fernandes as she became the first Woman Referee from Indian to get selected to officiate in a World Cup.

Praful Patel, President, All India Football Federation said that it was such an “inspiring moment for Indian Refereeing and Football.”


“Earning a ticket to officiate in any World Cup is a dream for every Referee. Congratulations Uvena! You make us proud,” he said.


“All India Football Federation has been in a constant effort to revamp the Refereeing structure in our Country. We are on the right track,” he added.

AIFF General Secretary Kushal Das attributed it to the hard work put in for the “development of Indian Referees.”

“Congratulations Uvena!” he mentioned. “I have been keeping track of her achievements and this will inspire more to take up Refereeing for sure.”

“Only last week FIFA Head of Referees Massimo Busacca had visited India. I need to thank FIFA for their overwhelming support. The operational AIFF Referees Academies are trying to unearth new talent from every nook and corner of the Country,” he stated.


Uvena became the second Indian Referee after K Shankar to get selected to officiate in any World Cup.
