3rd Test end in a draw, Australia clinch series

Melbourne, Dec 30 (IBNS): Chasing 384 for victory, India managed to settle for a draw on the fifth and final day of the third Test match against Australia even as losing the series here on Tuesday.

Losing three quick wickets of

Murali Vijay(11), Shikhar Dhawan (0) and KL Rahul (1), hopes of clinching the match was already over.


With India in trouble at 19 for three, Virat Kohli (54) and Ajinkya Rahane came to rescue the ship as they added 85 runs in the fourth wicket partnership.

After Harris sent Kohli back to the pavilion,

Cheteshwar Pujara (21) and later MS Dhoni (24*) made small contributions with their willows which helped them settle for a draw at the end.


Dhoni and R AShwin (8) remained unbeaten at the end of the match.

Mitchell Johnson , Josh Hazlewood and Ryan Harris picked up two wickets each for Australia.

Australia earlier batted for the morning session with unbeaten batsman Shaun Marsh scoring 99 with his willow before getting run out in the at the end, one short of scoring a century.

India on Monday were bowled out for 465 runs in their first innings.

Australia had posted a mammoth 530 on the scorecard in their first inning. The hosts clinched the series 2-0 with one more match left in the series.
