Veteran Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and wife Michele Singer found dead in LA home; police probe as culpable homicide

Los Angeles/IBNS: Veteran Hollywood filmmaker Rob Reiner and his wife Michele Singer were found dead at their Los Angeles home on Sunday evening, according to media reports.

Authorities said the couple was reportedly stabbed to death, and the case is being investigated as culpable homicide.

Reacting to the tragedy, Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass wrote on X:"This is a devastating loss for our city and our country. Rob Reiner’s contributions reverberate throughout American culture and society, and he has improved countless lives through his creative work and advocacy fighting for social and economic justice. An acclaimed actor, director, producer, writer, and engaged political activist, he always used his gifts in service of others."

Bass added that she was personally heartbroken, highlighting Reiner and Singer’s advocacy for early childhood development and LGBTQ+ rights, including efforts to overturn Proposition 8. She also thanked first responders and said the investigation is ongoing.

California Governor Gavin Newsom also expressed his condolences, writing on X: "Rob will be remembered for his remarkable filmography and for his extraordinary contribution to humanity."

Born in New York City, Reiner was an acclaimed American actor, director, producer, and activist. He first gained fame for his role as Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking TV sitcom All in the Family (1971–1979).

Transitioning to film, Reiner, who was 78 at the time of death, became a celebrated director with classics such as This Is Spinal Tap (1984), Stand by Me (1986), The Princess Bride (1987), When Harry Met Sally… (1989), and A Few Good Men (1992).

His films are known for their blend of humor, heart, and social commentary, often leaving a lasting impact on audiences and critics alike.

Beyond filmmaking, Reiner was an active producer and a committed political and social activist, frequently using his platform to support progressive causes. He is the son of legendary actor Carl Reiner, continuing his family’s remarkable legacy in Hollywood.

Rob Reiner’s contributions to television, film, and activism have cemented his reputation as one of the most versatile and influential figures in the entertainment industry.
