Kolkata/UNI: Legendary Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee has been given blood transfusion on Sunday after his haemoglobin count dropped a bit, due to internal bleeding.

''He is now getting stabilised after multiple transfusion while we are planning for the third dialysis session. He has been under treatment for 25 days. His haemoglobin is getting stabilised now, platelets have gone up, given multiple transfusion,'' said Dr Arindam Kar of Belle Vue Clinic here today.

"Due to the bleeding there have been some mild physiological alterations, we might give him a dialysis today," the doctor added.

Dr Kar also said, "He is breathing well on that and there are no complications as well. All the antibiotics are rescheduled or upgraded according to the sensitivity.''

The other vital parameters of the thespian are working fine, he said, adding that "lung-wise he is doing okay."

"The infection part is not that bad," the doctor said.

"The neurological team said some improvement has been seen in the health condition and we are giving our best effort,'' said Dr Kar.

"As of now, we are struggling with falling haemoglobin. We hope it will be settled by tonight itself," the doctor said.

"The health condition is a little bit stable in comparison to the last few days. We have been able to normalise most of the parameters that went haywire,” Dr Arindam Kar told media.

One of the most celebrated actors in Bengal, Chatterjee has received many awards and honours, including the Padma Bhushan, the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, several national awards, and Sangeet Natak Akademi Tagore Ratna.
