Top Gun 3 confirmed! Tom Cruise set to return to the skies

Tom Cruise is set to return to the big screen, soaring through the skies once again in high-speed fighter jets, as the makers have officially confirmed a third instalment in the Top Gun series.

Although a sequel had reportedly been in development since 2024, Paramount Pictures formally announced Top Gun 3 during its annual CinemaCon presentation.

According to reports, Cruise will reprise his iconic role, though no other cast members have been confirmed so far.

The film will reportedly be produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, who had earlier hinted at the project’s progress.

“We pitched Tom a story he liked,” Bruckheimer said in 2024, as quoted by The Guardian. “But he’s a very in-demand actor with a packed schedule, so we’ll have to wait and see.”

Speaking about the project last year, Cruise told The Guardian: “It took me 35 years to figure out Top Gun: Maverick. So, all of these things we’re working on—we’re discussing Days of Thunder and Top Gun: Maverick.”

Directed by Joseph Kosinski, the 2022 blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick was a massive global success, grossing around $1.5 billion at the box office on a $170 million budget, even as the world grappled with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Cruise first took to the skies as the daring pilot in the original Top Gun, which was released in 1986 and became a cultural phenomenon.
