Kolkata/IBNS: Actress Sauraseni Maitra received the Best Actress Award and Rishav Ghosh received the Best Director Award for the film Synthetic Sati, in the prestigious Dada Saheb Phalke Film Festival 2020, in the student film category.

Sauraseni Maitra, a promising young Bengali film actresses, who has worked in films like Generation Ami, Ami Asbo Phirey, Finally Bhalobasa, Byomkesh Gotro, Machher Jhol, Chittagong, recalled interesting moments she spent while shooting for Synthetic Sati.

She said, “In other films where I have worked, I was the youngest team member. In this film Rishav, the director of Synthetic Sati is younger to me and I used to take advantage of that. He was like a sweet younger brother whom I bullied on the set of Synthetic Sati, by saying things like this is the last shot for today; I am tired Rishav. He used to plead, didi, please do another couple of shots and we will be done. Everyone in the unit was very young but everyone was very dedicated and professional.”

Rishav Ghosh, the 20-year-old director of Synthetic Sati said, “Yes, I am very happy to receive this respect. Synthetic Sati deals with the current issues youngsters of my generation deal with, like online bullying, loneliness, and depression. We often spend too much time in the virtual world with synthetic friends, ignoring real people around us. My film tries to give a message to spend more time with real people around you.”

When asked to talk about some interesting moments while making his film Synthetic Sati, he said, “We had an important scene in rain. We had placed several showers dangling above the road to create rain and water was pumped from a nearby pond to create the rain. The flexible plastic pipe burst three times while filming and everyone in the unit got busy to mend the ruptured pipe. On another day, we are shooting on a rooftop, on the 8th floor. I was trying to capture the loneliness of Sauraseni di; but it was not coming up to my satisfaction. Then I requested her if she will sit on the edge of the roof with her legs dangling from the edge of the roof. It is 80 feet above the ground. I had presumed she will refuse. But to my amazement, she agreed and sat on the edge of the roof dangling her legs and I filmed that using a drone and it came out very well."

Synthetic Sati, produced by Power Publishers & Motion Pictures, is streaming on MxPlayer, Hoichoi, Airtel Xtream, Vodafone Play, and Idea Movies.

The movie was screened at the South Asian Film Festival of Montreal (SAFFM) and selected in the Lift-Off Sessions Film Festival (United Kingdom).

The film was also nominated and screened in 12th Jaipur International Film Festival.

The film won at White Unicorn International Film Festival.
