Sushant death: Rhea Chakraborty files petition in SC seeking transfer of probe to Mumbai

Mumbai/IBNS: Actress Rhea Chakraborty on Wednesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court urging that all investigations in connection with Sushant Singh Rajput's death be transferred to Mumbai after she was named in an FIR by the late actor's father.

Sushant's father KK Singh on Tuesday filed the FIR at Rajiv Nagar Police Thana in Patna.

He had accused Rhea, who was reportedly dating the late actor, of cheating him and eventually driving him to commit suicide.

Singh had also alleged that Rhea had taken money and then abandoned his son.

Rhea's lawyer Satish Maneshinde on Wednesday informed that a petition has been filed by the actress in Supreme Court seeking transfer of investigation in Sushant's death to Mumbai.

Sushant Singh Rajput was found dead at his Mumbai's Bandra home on June 14. The Mumbai Police had called it a suicide but later started an investigation into the death after allegations of foul play surfaced.

The Maharashtra government had also ordered a probe into the death of the 34-year-old actor who was alleged to have been cornered by the Bollywood film industry's practice of nepotism and favouritism.

The Mumbai Police have already questioned over 40 people in connection with the case including Rhea Chakraborty, his co-stars, psychiatrist, filmmakers Sanjay Leela Bhansali, Aditya Chopra and Shekhar Kapoor among others.

They are also considering quizzing Karan Johar, who had been targetted by actress Kangana Ranaut over the film Drive's release on an OTT platform instead of theatres which featured Sushant.

Sushant, who was undergoing mental depression in the last six months of his life, had reportedly lost a number of Bollywood projects in a few months' time.

His father, however, in the FIR, claimed that Sushant had no mental issues before he met Rhea in 2019.

He said that the doctors who treated Sushant were even known to Rhea.

Sushant made his debut in the Bollywood with the 2013 film 'Kai Po Che' and then went on to appear in several successful movies including 'PK', 'MS Dhoni: The Untold Story', 'Kedarnath', 'Sonchiriya' and 'Chhichhore.'

His last film 'Dil Bechara' released digitally last Friday and is currently streaming on Over-the-top (OTT) platform Disney+ Hotstar.
