Mumbai/IBNS: Filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra's latest released movie Shikara received a massive shout out from actor Aamir Khan on Friday.

Khan said Shikara has a story that needs to be shared with everyone.

Sharing the trailer of the movie on his Twitter page, Khan posted: "Wishing you all the very best Vinod! Shikara is a film about one of the most tragic events in our recent history. A story that needs to be told."

Vidhu Vinod Chopra's film Shikara is based on the ethnic cleansing of Kashmiri pandits from the valley back in 1989-1990. It released on Friday.

On a cold, dark night of Jan 19, 1990, the Pandits including the Sikhs and Hindus were forced out of Kashmir.

Not featuring any big Bollywood stars, Chopra cast Aadil Khan and Sadia in the lead characters who were shown in the trailer being forced to leave the land of Kashmir.

Meanwhile, the movie performed well on the opening day.

It earned Rs. 1.20 crore on the first day of its release.

"#Shikara surprises on Day 1... Released at multiplexes mainly, the biz gathered momentum post noon shows [a norm nowadays]... Needs to double its Day 1 number on Day 2 and maintain the trend on Day 3 for a respectable weekend total... Fri ₹ 1.20 cr. #India biz," film critic Tarn Adarsh tweeted.
