Sandip Ray always invokes Bengali literary tradition in his films: Saswata

| | Jan 04, 2016, at 12:25 am
Kolkata, Jan 3 IBNS) Having drawn praises for his portrayal of a deviant elder brother and son, with comic overtones in Monchora, actor Saswata Chatterjee considers it a privilege to be part of successive Sandip Ray films.

"From 'Char' to 'Jekhane Bhuter Bhoy', I had the privilege to be associated with different films of Babuda [as Sandip Ray is called] and which always fascinates me is his simple narrative style and how the characters are brought to life,' Saswata tells IBNS at the premiere of the film last Friday.

"Monchora is from Saradindu Bandyopadhyay's work and another literature-based work by Babuda. He is a director who always invokes the rich literary tradition of Bengal through his works," the Ajit in Byomkesh Bakshi says.

Actor Abir Chatterjee, who enacts the role of a do-gooder thief in Monchora, also says, "Yes, whenever Babuda calls me for any role, I am ready. It's a privilege to be part of Sandip Ray's unit."

"Asked about the forthcoming Ebar Sabor sequel by director Arindam Sil, Saswata says, "I played a hardened cop in the first film and did stunts. Yes I have been approached for the Ebar Shabor sequel."

"People like us are getting work with typical Bengali look and physicality as our directors are banking on this aspect," he says.

Produced by Eros International Media Ltd 'Monchora' premiere also witnessed the presence of director Sandip Ray, lead actor a.k.a 'Feluda' Abir Chatterjee, veteran Paran Bandyopadhyay and  June Maliah among others.
