Saif Ali Khan thinks there was no concept of India before British rule, gets trolled on Twitter

Tanhaji: The Unsung Warrior is a biographical period and action film set in the 17th century which revolves around the battle of Sinhagad. The film is based on the life of Tanaji Malusare, the military leader of Chatrapati Shivaji.   

Several reviewers have said the history has been altered in the film and has been replaced by the populist political narrative of the country.

In an interview with Anupama Chopra, Saif, while speaking about Indian history, said, "....I am quite aware of what the history was. I don't think there was a concept of India till perhaps the British gave it one."

Following the statement, several Twitter users trolled Saif who played a key role in the film which has already crossed Rs. 100 crore at the box office.

Rajeev Mantri tweeted, "This is something...Saif Ali Khan’s uncles are top officers of Pakistan’s ISI; he‘s made films asserting global terrorism is a “Zionist conspiracy”; his wife Kareena said Saif is a history buff and then they name their child after a mass killer; now this."

One Abhishek tweeted, "Dear Saif Ali Khan, Even 2300 years ago, the Greek ambassador Megasthenes in the court of Chandragupta Maurya recorded his memoirs in a book called "Indika" And you think there was no concept of "India" before the British. Suits the IQ level expected from Bollywood."

In a much personal attack on the actor, one Imtiaz Mahmood tweeted, ""There wasn't a concept of India till British came."~ Saif Ali Khan Bhosri ke, did they name 'East India Company' after your daughter's name?"

"#SaifAliKhan I'm not shocked at all by the comment....what can be expected from a man who names his son after a lootera and killer 'Taimur'...guys please don't give him any comments, he doesn't deserve anything at all," said another Twitter user.
