Kolkata/IBNS: Nitesh Tiwari’s Ramayana witnessed its grand trailer preview in Kolkata earlier this week with school students from all over the city attending the event.

The event, held at IMAX South City Mall, was preceded by a quiz on the epic – the Ramayana – and a number of games for the youngsters.

An audience member relayed her experience at the theatre: “Of course it is an amazing experience to watch such an epic drama on the big screen.”

Ramayana is an upcoming Indian epic film produced by Namit Malhotra, directed by Nitesh Tiwari, and written by Shridhar Raghavan.

The film is based on the ancient Indian text the Ramayana and is the first installment of a planned two-part series.

It stars Ranbir Kapoor (Ram), Ravi Dubey (Lakshman), Sai Pallavi (Sita), Sunny Deol (Hanuman) and Yash (Raavan) in lead roles. Other cast members include Amitabh Bachchan, Arun Govil, Lara Dutta, Vivek Oberoi, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Kunal Kapoor, Sheeba Chaddha, Indira Krishnan and Shobana.

The film is made on the largest Indian film budget ever, estimated at ₹2,600–4,000 crore, produced by Namit Malhotra's Prime Focus Studios. Ramayana’s music is composed by the German composer Hans Zimmer and A. R. Rahman.

The students appeared ecstatic upon exiting the theatre hall saying, “We liked it very much. Our favourite was Ranbir Kapoor as Ram.”

While others favoured Yash in the role of Raavan, they promised to watch the movie along with their parents. The students did have a great time as Ramayana eyes a Diwali 2026 release in the Indian theatres.
