Rajkahini and Byomkesh characters are differently layered: Sohini

Kolkata, Nov 2 (IBNS) Actor Sohini Sarkar, who essayed the all important character of Satyabati in 'Har Har Byomkesh', said the adult thriller based on 'Bahnipatanga' is different from other Byomkesh Baksi works.

"Like two persons can't be the same, two actors can't be the same, they have different expressions. Their hairdo and skin texture and denture are different. They are two different entities" Sohini told IBNS when asked if there won't be comparisons with Ushashie Chakroborty who played the intrigued wife in the Anjan Dutt film released last December.

Sohini, who rates Feluda by Satyajit Ray as her most favourite sleuth as a reader, said, "Unlike Feluda, teenager's eternal favourite, Byomkesh had always been an adult thriller."

"Byomkesh novels talk about lust, anger and passion, all the sharoripu (proverbial six vices) lapped up by the adults and the same gets reflected in the film," the Phoring actor said.

About her looks in the film, Sohini said, "I have worn old world blouse, similar to the ones introduced by the Tagore household in the then Bengali society, and subdued color of saree to denote elegance of the female character, which does not play a subservient role in a detective story."

Asked how she was enjoying the new stardom with Rajkahini getting continued adulation, Sohini said, "The layerings of character are different in the two films."

"They are poles apart (the two characters). The two roles are drastically different in the two films," Sohini said.

Actor Ritwik Chakroborty, who enacted Byomkesh's assistant Ajit in the film, is loath to any comparison with Saswata Chatterjee, who portrayed the previous chronicler-Ajit avatars in three Anjan Dutt films.

"Apuda (Saswata) had done Ajit several times earlier. Probably he will do many times in future as well. Why he had done many other roles similarly.  There can't be any comparison," Ritwik said.

Talking about his chemistry with Abir Chatterjee, who enacts the Byomkesh in the film, Ritwik said, "Our bonhomie dates back to Cross Connection days in 2009. Such bonding gets reflected on screen always."

Director Arindam Sil, who credits producers Shri Venkatesh Films for leaving no stone unturned to add the realistic touch to the period era film, said "Venbkatesh may also produce the sequel to my superhit Ebar Shabar thriller."

Har Har Byomkesh will be released in this end December.
