Chennai/UNI: Security at actor Rajinikanth's Poes Garden residence has been enhanced in the wake of protests announced by pro-Dravidar outfits demanding an apology from him for his remarks against Rationalist leader Periyar.

Police sources said a three-tier security cover has been provided at his residence.

Meanwhile, members of Periyar Dravida Kazhagam gathered near Semmozhi Poonga, about a km from Rajini's house, and shouted slogans denouncing the actor for his remarks that in the 1971 rally taken out by Periyar in Salem in which unclothed idols of Lord Ram and Sita were taken and were garlanded with chappals.

When the protestors, carrying placards, tried to proceed towards the actor's house, they were arrested by the police.

They said their protests would continue till Rajinikanth tendered an apology.

It may be noted that the actor said he would neither express regret not tender an apology as what he said was not imaginary and were based on what appeared in the media.
