Open Tee Bioscope man Upal looks forward to to a secular, violence-free society
Kolkata, Mar 11 (IBNS) Popular contemporary singer, playback artiste, lyricist of Bengali films and Banglaband Chandrabindoo keyman, Upal Sengupta wants to pen a song on the utopia land where there will be no divisions among humans, no caste and religion strife and a land where women won’t be subjected to abuses and violence.
“We had all contributed to an album Niharika in 2011 which was a tribute to womanhood. Now after five years I would like to compose a song one day which will speak against all inequalities. There is no point in not dreaming,” the audience-backed Open Tee Bioscope music director tells IBNS at the music launch of ‘Tomar Tumi’ where he has also lent voice along with Anindya Chatterjee.
The 'Le Le Babu' singer in Open Tee Bioscope thinks a singer should always look towards positivity in his renditions and profess modern, liberal views..
About the cause and significance of International Women’s Day, Upal feels let the men show respect to women in all 365 days.
“Choosing a particular date for Women’s Day, one day as Valentine’s Day, one date as Mother’s Day, is like a checklist to remind people about import of such days and believe in the cause throughout the year,” he says.
The ‘Tomar Tumi’ composition has been launched in YouTube on March 8 night and Upal sees nothing unusual in exploring the digital media for connecting to the cause.
“So long you can get to hear your songs, whether there is an album which can be touched physically or felt virtually doesn’t matter. Content is the most important not the media. The more people enjoy the music, that is the real thing,” Upal says.
He says the change-over from gramophone record, to cassette, CDs and then pen drive has been an amazing journey and "we should embrace technology."
