Only SD streaming on streaming sites as India sees unprecedented rise in mobile internet use amid coronavirus lockdown

New Delhi/IBNS: As India goes under a 21-day-lockdown,all companies in digital industry have decided to offer only Standard Definition content till April 14, said media reports.

According to public broadcaster Prasar Bharati, all High Definition (HD) and ultra-HD content will default to SD content at birates not exceeding 480p.

The decision came after industry leaders met on Tuesday amid an exponential rise in mobile internet consumption after the 21-day-lockdown was implemented.

The reports said that the decision has been taken to ensure the robustness of cellular network as more and more people use web-based entertainment during the lockdown.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a national address on Tuesday (March 24) announced a 21-day lockdown warning all against venturing out and inviting the virus to home.

According to worldometers.info, India has till Wednesday morning 562 positive cases with 10 lives lost to the virus. 

There are   439,654  coronavirus cases worldwide now with  19,744  people succumbing to the virus, according to worldometers.info. A total of  111,941   people have recovered.
