My character has to be pivotal in a film : Rituparna Sengupta

Kolkata, June 14 (IBNS) Even if she is part of any ensemble cast, she always chooses her subject in any film which should have a strong female character, actress Rituparna Sengupta says.
"Shah Rukh Khan also turns up in films with ensemble cast. Ensemble cast or not what matters is about your choosing the subject. Look at Belaseshe. Yes upcoming Rajkahini has also an ensemble cast. But I have a pivotal role in that," Rituparna told IBNS on the location of the film Tadonto (Investigation) at Senbari, a heritage house in North Kolkata.

She was asked if an ensemble cast with power horse actors as in 'Tadonto', where she is pitted with the likes of Debshankar Halder and Goutam Halder and Kaushik Sen, enhances the vibe on the sets and the involvement and intensity of emotions.

Gushing about her co-stars in Tadonoto, which is a story on an 'escort service madam' who also performs as crooner in a local bar, Rituparna said, "I am the non-theatre background personality among actors like Debshankarda, Goutamda and Kaushik who are all versatile dramatists."

"I had previously worked with Debshanka Halder in 'Muktodhara' and 'Aleek Sukh' but this a totally different genre film where he is a cop entrusted to unravel a murder mystery. Goutam Halder is the owner of bar who exploits the girls," she says.

"I had agreed to do this flick because of Nitishda (Roy) who said it was a thriller in a retro background. And the very issue of exploitation of bar girls is quite pertinent. It happens across all segments," the 'Paromitar Ekdin' actor said.

Nitish Roy, the fabled art director in Bollywood having made 'Gosaibaganer Bhoot'  three years back, said: "They are all fine actors and we did not take much time to settle the casting issue."
