Mumbai: Complaint filed against actress Kangana Ranaut
Mumbai/UNI: A complaint has been filed against Hindi cinema actress Kangana Ranaut for allegedly bringing disrespect to Maharashtra government, Mumbai Police as well as film industry through her comments on social media.
Social activist Santosh Deshpande on Saturday registered an online complaint against the actress at Khar police station in the maximum city.
He alleged that Ranaut has irreparably damaged the Maharashtra's pride and self-respect. The social activist claimed that the actress has taken undue advantage of "freedom of expression" and posted 'inflammatory' comments on social media.
Deshpande told media here that if Mumbai Police fails to register a case against Ranaut, then he will have no option but to approach the court.
Recently, Ranaut in a tweet compared Mumbai to Pakistan-occupied Kashmir which invited sharp criticism from many including the state leaders.
"Sanjay Raut Shiv Sena leader has given me an open threat and asked me not to come back to Mumbai, after Aazadi graffitis in Mumbai streets and now open threats, why Mumbai is feeling like Pakistan occupied Kashmir?," the actress, currently staying in Manali of Himachal Pradesh, wrote on her twitter handle.
Shiv Sena's Sanjay Raut wrote in the party mouthpiece Saamana, "We kindly request her not to come to Mumbai. This is nothing but an insult to Mumbai Police. The Home Ministry should take action over it."
Maharashtra Home Minister Anil Deshmukh said Ranaut has no right to stay in Mumbai if she feels unsafe to which the actress reacted, "He is taking his own calls on my democratic rights, from POK to Taliban in one day."
Since the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June this year, Kangana has been continuously criticising Mumbai police, Maharashtra government as well as scion in the cinema industry. She has alleged that Mumbai police has failed to investigate the Rajput's case while the film industry continues to practise of 'nepotism'.
