KASHISH presents Indian LGBTQ films in US, Spain and Australia

Mumbai, Feb 24 (JEN): KASHISH Global, an initiative of KASHISH Mumbai International Queer Film Festival - South Asia's biggest LGBTQ film festival - is facilitating programming of Indian LGBTQ films worldwide at film festivals in Spain, USA and Australia, an official release stated.

The films being programmed are Nishant Roy Bombarde's National Award winning film 'Daaravtha (The Threshold)', Vikrant Dhote and Srikant Ananthakrishnan's 'Any Other Day', and Sridhar Rangayan's National Award winning documentary feature 'Breaking Free'.

"I am really grateful to KASHISH for providing the film with such a great platform. KASHISH Global is a brilliant initiative to take Indian films related to LGBT issues to worldwide audiences and increase its reach", said Nishant Roy Bombarde who was also a jury member at the recently concluded Mice Film Festival in Madrid and Valencia.

KASHISH MIQFF Festival Director Sridhar Rangayan said, "One of the aims of KASHISH is to provide a platform for Indian LGBTQ films to be showcased around the world. We are really thrilled that Indian LGBTQ films are made with a sensitivity and aesthetics that is appealing to a global audience. I am particularly thrilled with our collaboration with Mice Film Festival which is a children film festival with a special section on LGBT lives."

Rangayan will be a special guest at the Mardigras Film Festival which is also hosting a meeting of the Asia Pacific Queer Film festival Alliance where around 25 LGBTQ film festivals from the Asia Pacific region come together to have a dialogue about how LGBT film festivals are held in such challenging countries like India, China, Myanmar, Indonesia, etc.

KASHISH MIQFF is a member of this alliance and hopes to foster greater collaboration in the region.

DFW South Asian Film Festival, Dallas, USA | March 3 - 5 - Breaking Free, Any Other Day

Mardigras Film Festival, Australia | February 15 - March 2 - Daaravtha, Any Other Day

Brisbane Queer Film Festival, Australia | March 10-19 - Any Other Day

Melbourne Queer Film Festival, Australia | March 16-27 - Daaravtha, Any Other Day

The 8th edition of KASHISH will be held May 24-28, 2017 at Liberty Cinema and Alliance Francaise de Bombay.
