Intolerance row: Shah Rukh extends support to Aamir

Shah Rukh, who himself was in the vortex of controversy regarding a statement about intolerance in the country, was stated by IBN Live as saying, "You don't have to be proving your patriotism in any other way, except for thinking good for the country and doing good. You have to work for the benefit of the country. If I work for the country in the most kindest way in what I am good at, my country is going to benefit from that. But if I am corrupt, and regional about it, I will be harming my country."

The actor also claimed that in the age of digitalisation, people take to social media to rant out against and individual, seldom realising the radical steps they are taking.

Aamir who had earlier said in an event that he and his wife, film-maker Kiran Rao are worried about the growing violence in the country and thinks the situation to be unfavourable for their kids and even considered leaving the country, was met with severe criticism.

In a fresh statement, the actor said on Wednesday, "Neither I, nor my wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country. We never did, and nor would we like to in the future. Anyone implying the opposite has either not seen my interview or is deliberately trying to distort what I have said. India is my country, I love it, I feel fortunate for being born here, and this is where I am staying."

Aamir however said that he stands by his statement and that he is a proud Indian and urged people to take great care of the nation, preserving its multi-lingual heritage and diversified culture.
