I have written the story of Ahalya by keeping in mind Soumitra Chatterjee as Goutam Sadhu: Sujoy Ghosh

Kolkata, July 21 (IBNS):'Kahaani' famed director Sujoy Ghosh, who has come up with a 14-minute-long short film 'Ahalya', said working with veteran Bengali actor Soumitra Chatterjee was his childhood dream and he wrote the story keeping him in mind as playing the character 'Goutam Sadhu'.
Speaking at the screening of the film here,  Ghosh said: “The entire experience of making Ahalya was a bit challenging yet an interesting one.  For me both the epics Ramayana and Mahabharata are the greatest books ever and the unending wealth of stories in these two books are undisputed. The story of Ahalya always remained with me because in my younger days I found it very funny what happened with Indra.  I have specifically written this story keeping in mind Soumitra Chatterjee as Goutam Sadhu.”

On being asked about casting actress Radhika Apte instead of any other popular faces of Tollywood, he said: “We did a casting in which Radhika came out to be the best. Though, there is no solid reasoning but I felt it is going to be a nice mix of Bollywood and Tollywood industries.”

Chatterjee said he had a desire to work with  Sujoy Ghosh after watching his 'Kahaani'.

“Kahaani left me spell bound and  after watching the film I had a desire to work with Sujoy Ghosh as a director. The film Ahalya is based on an imagination, though it is not that popular in today’s films. I am sure the audience is going to like it,” said Dadasaheb Phalke Award winning actor Soumitra Chatterjee.

According to the Hindu mythology, ‘Ahalya’, one of the most beautiful woman created by Brahma was cursed by her much older husband and sage Gautama after he accused her of having an illegitimate relationship with the king of gods Indra.

The character of Ahalya is played in the movie by Radhika Apte.

Apart from Radhika and Chatterjee, the film stars actors Tota Roy Chowdhry as Indra Sen a police officer.

“For me working with Soumitra Chatterjee was like a three- day masters programme,” said Tota

The film is being produced by Royal Stag Barrel Select Large Short Films.
