I am the director's actor, but trust is important : Joy Sengupta

Kolkata, Sept 12 (IBNS) Actor Joy Sengupta, who essays the role of a failed lover in the second story of Bauddhayan Mukherji's acclaimed debut film Teenkahon, said there has been a resurgence in independent minded creative cinema in past five-six years.

"From the nadir Bengali cinema reached in the 80s when Ray was not in his peak and Uttam Kumar died and discerning audiences shunning theatres, the worst phase, there was suddenly this resurgence in post 2000 when serious cinema started happening in ones and twos and then became a trend in past five-six years," Joy says before the premier of Teenkahon at a city multiplex here.

"Now there are both good commercial films, middle of the road films and serious films and every genre has its takers as shown in the recent success of Asha Jaoar Majhea by Aditya Vikram Sengupta as well as Teenkahon besides others," he said.

Joy, however, expressed his readiness to be part of any meaningful cinema where he will be happy about the execution of director's thoughts.

"I think 120 per cent of cinema happens to be the director's medium and I have no qualms about that. Only I need to be satisfied about my role," he said.

Jab We Met director Imtiaz Ali, who 'Presents'  the film, said, "Bengalees are proud of their culture and Bengali directors like Bauddhayan are aspiring to make the kind of films made by Ray, Ritwik Ghatak."

"We had discussed about ways to be my part of the film after watching the same at  the Mumbai Academy of Moving Image (MAMI) film festival and I became presenter," he said.

Actor Koel Mallick, invited to the premier, said, "If I get to do more characters on the lines of Chaar and Hemlock Society that will enrich my repertoire. But it is the director's call. On personal front I am happy with the accolades for our films in recent times."

Directed by  Bauddhayan Mukherji.and Produced by,wife Monalisa Mukherji, Teen Kahon also stars Rituparna Sengupta and Sabyasachi Chakkraborth
