Filmmaker Sajid Nadiadwala scores another hit with Baaghi

Mumbai, May 5 (IBNS)) At the end of its opening weekend, Tiger Shroff and Shraddha Kapoor starrer Baaghi has registered India box office collections of Rs 38.58 crore. This puts the Sajid Nadiadwala production helmed by Sabbir Khan at the third spot of the highest Bollywood openers of 2016 so far.

Interestingly, the first two day numbers, Rs 23.07 crore, are higher than first week collections of Heropanti, Tiger’s debut that was also produced and directed by Sajid and Sabbir respectively.

Trade sources attribute the success of the rebellious love story to the chemistry between Tiger and Shradda, the former’s rise as the next action star, courtesy his skills in Indian martial art like Kalaripayattu and foreign like Muay Thai and Kung Fu among others.

“Not to forget the marketing campaign spearheaded by Sajid Nadiadwala. The way he positioned and promoted it, the movie has not only set the box office ringing in the single screens, it is also bringing in the crowd in the multiplexes,” observes a distributor.

A theatre chain official adds, “A young love story with a good soundtrack, new age action and fabulous production values is the formula that Sajid worked to the maximum with Baaghi. He understands the pulse of the audience and ensures he has the perfect team -- an appropriate director, cast and technicians on board -- in keeping with the subject. The film is holding strong on Monday too and is likely to register fantastic numbers by the end of the second weekend.”

There is no doubt that Sajid, who’s having a good run at the ticket windows with his movies, is the man with the Midas touch. From over the last two years, his films are having the audience thronging to the theaters. From those featuring younger talent like Alia Bhatt, Arjun Kapoor and Tiger in movies Highway, 2 States and Heropanti, to biggies like Kick with Salman Khan and Tamasha with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone.

Having tasted blood this year too with Baaghi, there’s surely no stopping Sajid as he has movies like Housefull 3, Dishoom and Rangoon lined up in the months to come.
