Evil Dead actor Bruce Campbell says his cancer is ‘treatable, not curable’ in emotional post

Veteran actor Bruce Campbell, best known for his role in the Evil Dead franchise, has revealed that he has been diagnosed with cancer.

The 67-year-old shared the news with fans in a candid statement posted on his X account.

“Hi folks, these days, when someone is having a health issue, it’s referred to as an ‘opportunity,’ so let’s go with that — I’m having one of those,” he wrote. “It’s also called a type of cancer that’s ‘treatable,’ not ‘curable.’ I apologise if that’s a shock — it was to me too.”

Campbell added that he would not be disclosing further details about his diagnosis.

“I’m posting this because professionally, a few things will have to change. Appearances and cons and work in general need to take a back seat to treatment,” he said.

The actor expressed hope that he would recover sufficiently over the summer to resume work.

“My plan is to get as well as I possibly can over the summer so that I can tour with my new movie Ernte Cor Emma this fall. There are several cons this summer that I have to cancel. Big regrets on my part. Treatment needs and professional obligations don’t always go hand-in-hand.”

Emphasising that he was not seeking sympathy, Campbell concluded his message on an optimistic note: “I’m not trying to enlist sympathy — or advice — I just want to get ahead of this information in case false information gets out (which it will). Fear not, I am a tough old son-of-a-bitch and I have great support, so I expect to be around a while. As always, you’re the greatest fans in the world and I hope to see you soon!”

Campbell is widely recognised for portraying Ash Williams in the horror series launched by director Sam Raimi, beginning with the 1979 short film Within the Woods and later the cult classic The Evil Dead.

Beyond the franchise, he has appeared in several cult favourites, including Crimewave, Maniac Cop, Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat, and Bubba Ho-Tep, cementing his status as a beloved figure in genre cinema.
