Mumbai: Escaype Live, a social thriller, which released its nine-episode series on Disney+ Hotstar, has got a good response from the audience.

People have loved the unique storyline, which depicts how we could deal with the effects of social media.

The man behind Escaype Live, director Siddharth Kumar Tewary is delighted with the response.

He says, “This series reflects the aspirations of our youth in today’s times. The response we are getting is not just from the regular web watchers, but also from the remotest places in India. Early trends are showing a significant increase in reach and viewership, bringing in newer audiences from beyond the metros."

"I’m excited and happy to have partnered with Disney+ Hotstar,” he said.

The stellar ensemble cast of the series is also thrilled with the audience reactions to their characters. South star and Rang De Basanti actor Siddharth, who plays the character of Krishna — a moderator, lauds the team for its effort.

He says, “The reason behind making this show was very pure and with artistic integrity. I am very proud of the vision of the show.”

Sumedh Mudgalkar, who already enjoys an abundant fan following, had to go through a complete transition. He says, “It was not easy for people to accept my changeover from Lord Krishna to Darkie, but I’m overwhelmed with the appreciation I’ve got. It’s unbelievable, I am happy I could do some justice to it.” His face-off opponent on the show Aamcha aka Ritvik Sahore adds, “I was nervous since nobody had ever done something like this in the Indian OTT space. But so many people have told me that when they start watching, they can’t stop till they finish it.”

Rohit Chandel, who plays an unconventional trans woman character in the series with the effervescent Shweta Tripathi, proudly reminisces a special moment from the ghats of Banaras, “A group of people looked at me and said, ‘Woh dekho apsara jaa rahi hai’. Till I spoke, nobody realised I am a man. I never thought my performance could affect lives. I have been getting constant messages from people who want to come out and live freely. It’s humbling.”

Not just Rohit, even Plabita Borthakur, who plays Fetish Girl, feels that her character demanded a lot from her as a woman. Talking about the response, she cheerfully adds, “Everyone has been asking me to just say ‘Hello boys’. Mainstream viewers are appreciating my work and it’s quite exciting.”

Written by Jaya Misra and Siddharth Kumar Tewary, Escaype Live also stars Jaaved Jaafferi, Swastika Mukherjee and Waluscha, who have been appreciated for their performances. The show, which is being lauded for having created some of the most unique characters that are real and relatable, is trending on the platform across the country.
