Emma Stone wins Best Actress for La La Land

Los Angeles, Feb 27 (IBNS) La La Land, the musical romantic comedy-drama film written and directed by Damien Chazelle, won six Oscars on Monday so far with the movie's star Emma Stone bagging the Best Actress award.

Also starring Ryan Gosling the film is the story of a musician and an aspiring actress who meet and fall in love in Los Angeles. 

“Manchester by the Sea” took best original screenplay and best actor for Casey Affleck, according to reports.

The biggest night of Hollywood - the 89th Academy Awards- is being hosted at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. 

Indian origin actor Dev Patel could not clinch the Oscars in the  best supporting actor category.

He missed it to  "Moonlight" star Mahershala Ali.

Patel had won the nomination in the category for his performance in Garth Davis "Lion."
