Don't know about tomorrow: Paoli Dam on joining politics

Kolkata, Aug 15 (IBNS): At a time a number of Bengali film actors are joining politics, Tollywood star Paoli Dam has left it to the future.

When asked about joining politics by IBNS during the premiere of her Bengali film Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo on Wednesday, Paoli said, "I don't know about tomorrow but right now I am happy...."

In recent times, several Tollywood actors joined politics, both in the ruling Trinamool Congress and the opposition Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Two leading contemporary Bengali film actresses- Mimi Chakraborty and Nusrat Jahan Jain (then Nusrat Jahan)- had contested the Lok Sabha polls this year in Trinamool's tickets and also won from Jadavpur and Basirhat constituencies respectively.

Soon after the BJP's huge inroad in the eastern state, a host of Bengali actors including Parno Mitra, Rishi Kaushik, Anindya Banerjee, Sourav Chakraborty have joined the right-wing party.

In Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo, which has been directed by Pratim D. Gupta, Paoli is also playing the role of a popular actress who joins politics. In one scene, she was seen confronting a journalist over the patriarchal mindset people have towards women actors joining politics.

After Asampto, Maacher Jhol, Ahare Mon, Paoli has once again been paired with actor Ritwick Chakraborty. "Today is the premiere of the film. It is going to release on Thursday. The film has been made with a lot of love and happiness. This is my fourth film with both Pratim (filmmaker) and Ritwick. So I am having a lot of expectation and excitement. Rest is up to the audience," said Paoli, who has also featured in a number of Bollywood films.

The story of Shantilal O Projapoti Rohoshyo revolves around a journalist, played by Ritwick, who evolves into a detective person and solves a mystery by moving from Kolkata to Chennai to Singapore.

Speaking on the occasion of the premiere, Ritwick said, "The premiere ends our wait for the audience to watch the film. We the actors also feel an excitement thinking about how would the audience react to the film. Actually this is a day of good feeling."
