'Dawshom Awbotaar': 'People wait for this combo,' says Prosenjit Chatterjee on his chemistry with Srijit Mukherji

Kolkata/IBNS: Filmmaker Srijit Mukherji reunited with Tollywood veteran Prosenjit Chatterjee for his cop universe 'Dawshom Awbotaar', a double prequel of his films 'Baishe Srabon' and 'Vinci Da'.

In 'Dawshom Awbotaar', which is one of the big Bengali releases in October, Prosenjit reprises his role of Probir Roychowdhury from 'Baishe Srabon', which was Srijit's second film.

Speaking to India Blooms recently, Prosenjit threw some light on his chemistry with Srijit, whose multiple films have won the National Awards.

Prosenjit says, "I always say a gentleman named Rituparno Ghosh made me what I am today. The next generation in the form of Srijit (Srijit Mukherji) or Kaushik (Kaushik Ganguly) or Atanu (Atanu Ghosh) further nurtured me.

"The audience waits for the combination of Srijit and Prosenjit because people anticipate something special going by our previous works. We do work with gaps but make meaningful films. This actor-director is a combo for which people wait for."

Prosenjit featured in Srijit's first two films- 'Autograph' and 'Baishe Srabon'- and then went on to collaborate with the 46-year-old filmmaker in 'Mishawr Rawhoshyo', 'Jaatishawr', 'Zulfiqar',  'Gumnaami' et al.

"It's a strategy," said Prosenjit in an instant reply when asked about working with Srijit with reasonable gaps over the last few years.

'Dawshom Awbotaar' trailer out now

The trailer of 'Dawshom Awbotaar', which features Anirban Bhattacharya, Jisshu U Sengupta, Jaya Ahsan in the lead, was dropped by the makers, Jio Studios and SVF, last Sunday.

In the trailer, which comprises murder, investigation, love and humour, Prabir Roychowdhury (Prosenjit's character in 'Baishe Srabon') joins hands with Bijoy Poddar (Anirban's character in 'Vinci Da') with a task to solve a serial murder happening in Kolkata.

The trailer begins with a journalist saying, "This is the third consecutive murder in Kolkata and police have no answers."

Though Prabir is considered the "best person" to solve the case, he gets assistance from Inspector Poddar.

Jisshu, who seems to be a surprise for the audience in theatres, is likely to play a pivotal role in the plot along with Bangladeshi star Jaya Ahsan.

The film is slated to release in Durga Puja.
