Cannes, May 23 (IBNS): Alejandro Ramirez, Global CEO of Cinepolis received the highest decoration in France at Cannes 2014, The National Order of the Legion of Honor.

The award recognizes an individual’s honorable service to the country.

Alejandro Ramirez was recognized for his contribution to the promotion of French Cinema through programs like the French Film Tour.

French Film Tour in is a traveling film festival that showcases a selection of recent French films at Cinepolis cinemas around Mexico prior to their commercial release.

The festival line-up aims to give Mexican audiences the chance to discover French cinema's latest offerings, focusing on high quality productions from a range of genres.

Alejandro Ramirez said, "It's a great honor to receive this award from the French government because I am very fond of culture and thought in this country"

"Since childhood I have been a lover of French culture and literature, and in recent years also of French cinema," Ramirez added.

"Almost two decades ago, we started this adventure of French Film Tour. It has allowed us to carry this film to almost two million Mexicans, whereas 10 or 15 years ago if we remember, there were very few cities that could enjoy it, so it's a great honour, "said Ramirez, who is an economist by profession.

Cinépolis, the first international cinema exhibitor in India and fourth largest exhibition circuit in the world, have announced their aggressive expansion plans for South India.

Cinépolis is currently located in thirteen cities in India and operates approximately 84 screens with an aggressive growth plan of having 400 screens pan India by 2017.
