London/IBNS: Hollywood star Anne Hathaway recently trended on social media over her use of the word “Inshallah” while promoting her upcoming film The Devil Wears Prada 2.

Fan Gifts Quran at London Premiere

The actor’s use of the phrase prompted a fan to gift her a Quran, the holy book of Islam, during the film’s premiere in London.

In a video from the event, the fan is heard telling Hathaway, “I have got this Quran for you. I saw the video where you said ‘Inshallah’.”

‘Inshallah’ Remark Sparks Online Chatter

During a conversation with People amid her promotional tour, Hathaway spoke about her evolving perspective on ageing and used the word in her response.

“I want to have a long, healthy life, Inshallah. I hope so,” the 43-year-old said, adding that she now values being “chill” and looks forward to each new decade with curiosity rather than apprehension.

What Does ‘Inshallah’ Mean?

“Inshallah” (also spelled Insha’Allah) is an Arabic expression that translates to “God willing” or “if God wills it.”

It is commonly used when referring to future plans or hopes, acknowledging that outcomes ultimately depend on divine will and expressing humility about the future.

Social Media Reactions

Hathaway’s use of the phrase has sparked conversations among social media users, with many discussing its cultural and contextual significance.

Busy Year Ahead for Hathaway

Hathaway has a packed slate of projects, making 2026 one of her busiest years.

She reprises her role as Andy Sachs in The Devil Wears Prada 2 and stars in Mother Mary, a psychological drama released on April 17.

She will also appear in Christopher Nolan’s epic The Odyssey, portraying Penelope, and headline the thriller Verity, based on a bestselling novel.
