Mumbai/IBNS: Dressed in track pants and a jacket, acting legend Amitabh Bachchan walked towards the main entrance of his house, Jalsa, to greet his fans on the occasion of his 81st birthday on Wednesday.

At midnight, Bachchan, who was wearing a skull cap, rose to a mini pedestal, waved at fans and also greeted them with folded hands.

The actor made his film debut as a voice narrator in Mrinal Sen's National Award winning film 'Bhuvan Shome'.

He made his acting debut with 'Saat Hindustani' and first caught the attention in Rajesh Khanna starrer 'Anand', a 1971 film.

Bachchan first caught the limelight as an "angry young man" in the 1970s giving a tough competition to superstar Rajesh Khanna who had excelled in romantic films.

With films like 'Deewar', 'Zanjeer', 'Sholay', Bachchan became a role model for several youth at that time. Later he had also taken part in a number of romantic films.

After a massive downfall in his career, the superstar made a comeback in the big screens with 'Mohabbatein' in 2000. Recreating himself in the early 21st century, Bachchan once again turned the tides in his favour with films like 'Black', 'Paa', 'Sarkar', 'Piku', 'Pink' and others.

Even at 80, Bachchan featured in five films in a single year in 2022. Some of his last films are 'Jhund', 'Runway 34', 'Brahmastra: Part One - Shiva', 'Goodbye' and 'Uunchai'.

The actor will be seen next in Nag Ashwin's fantasy drama 'Project K', which stars Prabhas and Deepika Padukone in the lead.
