Alia Bhatt wears Sabyasachi saree at Met Gala 2024 paying 'homage to nature's beauty'

"We have a responsibility towards our planet, and that's one of the reasons why I became a part of Poacher," Alia Bhatt told The Hindu during the promotions of the Amazon Prime Video web series which she led as an executive producer.

In tandem with her consciousness of nature, Bollywood top star Alia Bhatt paid homage to the natural beauty of the world through her saree- designed by celebrity fashion designer Sabyasachi- at the Met Gala 2024.

For the uninformed, the Met Gala, also known as 'fashion's biggest night, is the world's most prestigious and glamorous fashion event.

In her second year at the event, Alia opted for a saree blending tradition with innovation, as she says, giving "an ode to art and eternity".

Coded as "The Garden of Time", the outfit, as Alia says, "took on a life of its own."

"Timelessness is endless, and we acknowledge that things crafted with time and care, can last forever. In our journey for an Indian interpretation of this universal theme, the outfit took on a life of its own," the Bollywood A-lister says in an Instagram post.

As revealed in the pictures Alia shared on social media, she was seen wearing the green sheer saree with floral prints along with a long pallu.

She opted for a butterfly blouse with ruffled sleeves to stylise her gorgeous saree, a year after the Gangubai Kathiawadi actress chose a gown to make her Met Gala debut.

Getting into the details of the saree, Alia, who has worked in innumerable successful films in over a decade, shares, "Nothing embodies tradition and innovation like the saree; in the skilled hands of @sabyasachiofficial, this vision found its fullest expression. We looked to the past as a guide for the future, drawing inspiration from the timeless sophistication of Indian nobility.

"We focused on intricate craftsmanship, incorporating hand embroidery, precious stones, along with elegant beadwork and fringes, distinctive of the 1920’s fringe style. Our colour palette pays homage to nature’s beauty, echoing the earth, sky, and sea."

To compliment her costume, Alia opted for "an elevated coiffure embellished with intricately woven braids and soft freckles" when it comes to hair and makeup.

The saree's creation required the labour of 163 individuals and 1965-man hours. "Creating this has been quite an experience… fun and stressful in equal parts," the actress says.

Heaping praises on Sabyasachi for Alia's look, Soni Razdan, the actress' mother, wrote in the Instagram post, "you’re an absolute genius. Don’t know how you created this work of art in the time you had. It’s simply stunning but even that is an understatement…. Truly a masterpiece and has transformed @aliaabhatt into a timeless princess."

On the work front, Alia, who is having a dream run in the box office, has finished shooting for Vasan Bala's Jigra.

This is the first film where Alia's production house Eternal Sunshine collaborated with Karan Johar's Dharma Productions.

Jigra, which co-stars Vedang Raina, is about a sister's love for her brother and how she would protect him.
