'Alaap' trailer: Abir Chatterjee, Mimi Chakraborty indulge in 'subtle' romance with love letter essence

Kolkata/IBNS: In an age of online dating apps, Abir Chatterjee and Mimi Chakraborty starrer upcoming Bengali film 'Alaap' promises to recreate the romance from the era of love letters in a more contemporary form.

The trailer of the film- directed by Premendu Bikash Chaki- was unveiled at city cafe Tall Tales in Kolkata in presence of the 'Alaap' team members on a summer evening earlier this week.

In the 2:44-minute trailer, which is now available on YouTube, Abir as Pablo Majumdar and Mimi as Aditi Mitra happen to share a single flat in the city but they never meet for staying at home at alternate hours due to professional commitments.

Though Mimi was initially hesitant to share the space with a male flatmate, later the two were shown interacting with each other through the exchange of messages via sticky notes.

"Nowadays we miss love letters and romance through letters. Our film captures that essence. We millennials can relate to it very much," says Mimi, speaking on the sidelines of the trailer launch event.

"In the present time, relationships begin and end on WhatsApp messages but 'Alaap' has the feeling of romance through letters. The film speaks about loving a person even without a meeting," the Tollywood star adds.

Much like the 'Abohawa Bole Dey' track, the only song so far released by the makers from the film, the trailer encapsulates subtlety in capturing the slow growth of romance between Pablo and Aditi.

"Every relationship or a love story has its own rhythm. The entire story of 'Alaap' is very subtle and sensible. This film is to be felt," says Abir, who along with Mimi delivered a blockbuster in the form of 'Raktabeej' just last year.

Apart from the two, 'Alaap' features actress Swastika Dutta in a key role.

The rom-com, which is produced by Surinder Films, will hit the theatres on April 26.
