Actor Syed Jaffrey passes away at 86

Mumbai, Nov 16 (IBNS) Veteran actor Syed Jaffrey, the first recipient of OBE or the Order of the British Empire, passed away on Monday, his niece Shaheen Aggrawal posted on her facebook page.

Jaffrey was the star of many popular Bollywood and British films. Some of his movies include Satyajit Ray's Shatranj Ke Khiladi, Raj Kapoor's Ram Teri Ganga Maili, Richard Attenborough's Gandhi to name a few.

Jaffrey was also the first Asian to receive British and Canadian Academy Awards nominations.

Upon his demise, Prime Minister  Narendra Modi conveyed  his condolences. The PM wrote on Twitter: "Saeed Jaffrey was a multifaceted actor whose flair & versatility will always be remembered. Deepest condolences on his passing away."

While the reason behind Jaffrey's death has not been  confirmed, Bollywood celebrities are paying homage to the veteran actor on Twitter.

Shekhar Kapur, his Masoom director tweeted: "Goodbye dear Sayeed. Started my career with u in Masoom. Cant forget ur kindness n enthusiasm for your art n others. "
