Actor Dilip Kumar gets Padma Vibhushan award

Mumbai, Dec 13 (IBNS): Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday conferred the 'Padma Vibhushan Samman' to iconic Indian actor Dilip Kumar.

"Reached Mumbai. Shall visit the residence of Shri @TheDilipKumar to honour him for his immense contribution to Indian cinema," Singh earlier tweeted.

HMO India later tweeted with a picture showing Singh conferring the award to Kumar which read: "HM conferring the 'Padma Vibhushan Samman' to legendary film actor @TheDilipKumar at his residence in Mumbai."

Dilip Kumar's wife and actress Saira Banu told media: "" I am very happy today. I am thankful to the Indian government for giving such an award to him. This is the biggest award he has received."

Maharashtra Governor C Vidyasagar Rao, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis attended the event.

Kumar turned 93 last week.

A superstar, Kumar is known for acting in several films like  Andaz (1949),  Aan (1952), Devdas (1955), Azaad (1955), Mughal-e-Azam (1960) and Ganga Jamuna (1961).
