Kolkata/IBNS: Actor Abir Chatterjee is back as an onscreen detective, courtesy Debaloy Bhattacharya's upcoming Bengali film 'Shri Swapankumarer Badami Heynar Kobole', which is Hoichoi Studios' debut theatrical project.

Abir plays detective Deepak Chatterjee in the film, which is based on the famous pulp stories of Shri Swapankumar.

The film's promotion kickstarted with the motion poster launch here on Wednesday.

Speaking at the launch, Abir said, "I always wondered why these types of films are not being made. Even in the film, we raised the question on whether too much rooting to realism is depriving us of fantasy.

"We have tried to make something different through this film."

In a city threatened by the notorious international terrorist Badami Hyena, a long-forgotten detective, Deepak Chatterjee, is brought out of retirement by his creator, prolific pulp writer Swapankumar.

They unite with Deepak's trusted confidante, Ratanlal to capture Badami Hyena and secure a secret container holding his lifeline.

As Deepak relentlessly pursues Badami Hyena, a captivating story unfolds, weaving history, culture, and clever narrative tricks, rekindling the forgotten legacy of Swapankumar and Deepak Chatterjee.

Along with Abir, the film features veteran actors Paran Bandyopadhyay, Pratik Dutta and Shruti Das.

Keeping the suspense on her character intact, Shruti said, "This film and the genre are completely new. I am just grateful for being a part of the cast. Tashi, my character, is a mystery."
