Mumbai, Mar 14 (IBNS) Bollywood actor Aamir Khan turned a year older as he celebrates his 51st birthday on Monday.

Aamir, the son of late Bollywood film producer Tahir Hussain and wife Zeenat Hussain, started his Bollywood journey with the low-budget experimental film Holi.

His next film, Qayamat Se Qayamat Tak catapulted him to stardom but it wasn't until the 21st century that Aamir found global success.

With a string of successful movies like Lagaan, Mangal Pandey and Rang De Basanti, he had an unprecedented success and since then the actor follows the 'one movie a year' policy.

His recent film PK broke most Bollywood records and was hailed as one of the best movies of the year 2015.

Aamir has won seven Filmfare Awards in various categories. He has also won four National Film Awards.

He is also the recipient of Padma Awards, receiving the Padma Shri in 2003 and Padma Bhushan in 2010.
