You do your work, I'll do mine: Mulayam on UP rape cases

Lucknow, June 4 (IBNS): A day after Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav blamed the media for building a hype over the Badaun gangrape and murder case, his father and Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav, when quizzed on the issue of increased crimes against women, on Wednesday asked mediapersons "to do their own job."
"You do your work, I'll do mine," Mulayam said on being asked to comment over the issue.

This comes a day after Akhilesh Yadav slammed the media for creating a hype over the Badaun case.

"When such incidents happen here, the media highlights a lot. Such incidents don't happen only in UP and if I give you statistics of these crimes across the country you will again ask me questions. If you go online and Google, you will see where else such incidents occur. Did the national media cover the Bangalore rape case this way as it is doing now?" Akhilesh told reporters on Tuesday.

His uncle, Ram Gopal also the blamed TV channels for the increase in crimes against women.

"Vulgarity, obscenity and violence shown on TV channels is the reason for such crimes. These crimes can be controlled only to an extent, but not completely,'' he told media.

These come after the SP government is under constant attack for failing to ensure safety of women in Uttar Pradesh.

Two Dalit minor sisters were allegedly gangraped and then hanged from a tree at Katra village in Badaun district on May 27.

The cousin sisters, aged 14 and 15 respectively, were reportedly missing since May 27 night.

Another minor was allegedly raped and later hanged from a tree in Sitapur district of Uttar Pradesh, said reports on Wednesday.

A 15-year-old was allegedly abducted by six men when she went out of her house to relieve herself and her body was later found hanging from a tree, said reports.

"My daughter was raped and killed by our 40-year-old neighbour and his friends. That old man wanted to marry my daughter. When we objected, he did this crime," said the girl's father.
