Yogi Adityanath formally chosen as UP Chief Minister again, oath tomorrow

Lucknow/IBNS: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) legislators on Thursday formally chose Yogi Adityanath as the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh for the second straight term, a record witnessed in the state for the first time in 37 years.

The BJP won a consecutive term in the recently concluded assembly elections scripting history in nearly 40 years.

Pointing to his individual record, Yogi Adityanath, who will be the first CM to lead the state for the two terms, said, "The party believed in me in 2017. I was just a normal MP and I had no administrative experience and yet Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the home minister were like guardians to me and told me how to being good governance to UP."

"One can know some things as a MP but how to govern and administer is something different," said the Chief Minister, who is also a five-time MP from Gorakhpur.

"One can be an MP in a limited space but to govern a state like UP is a different ballgame and because of the guidance I got we have managed to being good governance to UP," said the Chief Minister-elect.

The BJP retained Uttar Pradesh by winning 255 out of 403 constituencies, securing a 41.29 per cent vote share.

Adityanath and his cabinet will take oath on Friday in presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Elaborate preparations have been made for thousands of guests to attend, including senior party leaders, Union ministers and Chief Ministers of BJP-ruled states.

Notably, actors Akshay Kumar, Kangana Ranaut and Boney Kapoor are expected to attend the ceremony.

Veteran actor Anupam Kher, who played the lead role in Vivek Agnihotri's film on the genocide of Kashmir Pandits, The Kashmir Files, will be present along with the director.

The swearing-in ceremony will be held at Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium at 4 pm on Mar 25.
