Yashwant Sinha continues to lead farmer's protest in Maharashtra, two opposition CMs tweet support
New Delhi/Mumbai, Dec 5 (IBNS): Two opposition Chief Ministers came out to support BJP leader Yashwant Sinha, who was detained after he joined a farmers protest in Maharashtra, on Monday.
Since his detention, Sinha has been sitting on a dharna, media reports said.
Accusing the Maharashtra government of apathy towards farmers of the Vidarbha region, Sinha told media that he is not going to end the protest till all the demands of the farmers are met.
Sinha told The Indian Express, “I am determined to stay here till all demands are met. The excuse about NAFED purchase is not valid as BJP-ruled states like MP and Gujarat have been procuring the produce through their own procurement systems. Why can’t the Maharashtra government then do it?”
Maharashtra is ruled by Sinha's BJP.
Meanwhile, opposition leaders Arvind Kejriwal and Mamata Banerjee have come out in support of Sinha.
Arvind Kejriwal, Delhi CM, tweeted: "Why has Sh Yashwant Sinhaji been arrested? Insane. He shud be released immediately."
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said :"I am concerned about @YashwantSinha Ji former Union Finance Minister in jail. I am sending our MP Dinesh Trivedi to meet him. @YashwantSinha is fighting for the cause of farmers. He has our full support."
