Won't compromise with communalism: Nitish Kumar

Patna, Apr 5 (IBNS): Sending out a strong message to his ally partner Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Bihar Chief Minister and Janata Dal (United) chief Nitish Kumar on Thursday said he should not be expected to compromise with communalism, media reports said.

Referring to his break-up of ties with Lalu Prasad's Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and Congress, Nitish said he didn't compromise with corruption and should not be expected to do so with communalism either.

Nitish's comment came in the aftermath of the violence which was witnessed in the state on the occasion of Ram Navami last month.

Eventually, the Bihar police has arrested BJP leader Arijit Shashwat.

At a press conference on Thursday, Nitish said: "I never compromised with the rule of law... But I always say that there are all kinds of people in a society and some of them are trying to create mischief and disturbance."

"But we are committed to for the peace, communal harmony and brotherhood and if somebody comes to disturb, then he has to go behind bars. Such elements are not spared," the CM added.

The Ram Navami clash, in which Shashwat has been accused, made Nitish uncomfortable as he is presently running the Bihar government with the BJP.

The JD(U) had quit the grand alliance with RJD and Congress after corruption charges were levelled against Lalu Prasad and his son Tejashwi in 2017.

After the quit from grand alliance, the JD(U) had forged an alliance with the BJP to rule the state.
