Woman raped at gunpoint near Mumbai

| | Jun 02, 2014, at 12:55 am
Thane, June 1 (IBNS) A 29-year-old woman was allegedly raped at gun-point inside a car in Thane near Mumbai on Saturday, according to her complaint, media reports said.

The incident occurred near Bhayandar Railway Station where the two accused had asked the woman to come for a job.

When she arrived there, she was asked to board a car inside which she was raped at gun point.

Police are investigating the case.

Once considered a safe place for women, Mumbai in recent years witnessed several crimes against women. A woman photo journalist was gang-raped by some men in the heart of the city in an abandoned paper mill last year.

A Mumbai sessions court in April had sentenced the men to death under section 376E under the Indian Penal Code that carries the maximum of death penalty for such crimes.
