Woman faces acid attack in running train near Kolkata

| | Feb 14, 2017, at 03:47 am
Kolkata, Feb 13 (IBNS): A nearly 23-year-old woman and her co-passenger were allegedly attacked with acid in a moving local train near Baruipur railway station in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal, barely 25 km. from state capital Kolkata on Sunday night, reports said on Monday.

According to reports, the woman boarded a Diamond Harbour bound local train from Jadavpur station in Kolkata and an 'unidentified' miscreant, covering his face with a black stuff, boarded the ladies' compartment of the train from Baruipur station.

When the train was entering Kalyanpur, the miscreant suddenly threw acid aiming at the woman's face and fled from the slowly moving train.

The young woman and her another lady co-passenger were seriously injured in the acid attack.

After being rescued, they were rushed to a hospital nearby and later shifted later to M.R. Bangur Hospital in Kolkata as their health conditions deteriorated.

However, after lodging a case on suo-motto basic, the Baruipur GRP has begun probe into the matter.

Basing on a complaint, lodged by victim's father, police have detained a promoter, Swarup Halder, for interrogation.
