Kolkata, Oct 30 (IBNS): At a time when several parts of Kolkata and its surrounding are facing the threat of dengue outbreak, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday said that her government will take strict action against civic bodies if they fail in their efforts to control the spread of the mosquito-borne infection.

Speaking to media, she said, "I have directed all the civic bodies to be alert. But if I find that any municipality is failing in its duty to check the spread of dengue, we shall take action."

She blamed the spread of the infection on the weather.

Banerjee claimed that only 13 people have died in state-run hospitals in the West Bengal so far.

She said her government is probing the 27 deaths recorded in private hospitals due to dengue.

Several parts of North 24 Parganas such as Bongaon, Dumdum, Bidhannagar, Bhangar, and Deganga are witnessing havoc dengue spread.
