Kolkata/Malda, May 18 (IBNS): A Congress activist was found dead on Wednesday at Kaliachak in West Bengal's Malda district, officials said.

According to reports, local Alinagar Gram Panchayet member and Congress activist Sebajul Ali (35) went missing since Tuesday night and his body, with severe deep wounds, was spotted on Wednesday morning on a ground, nearby his house.

Local Congress leadership alleged that he was killed by Trinamool Congress (TMC) men.

Protesting against the incident and demanding immediate arrest of all accused in this case, local Congress activists gheraoed Kaliachak Police Station and held demonstration there.

Police however started investigation into the case and detained one suspect, Ruhul Sheikh.

"One middle-aged man was stabbed to death in Kaliachak Police Station area. We have begun probe and detained one. He is being interrogated," Malda SP Syed Waquar Raza told IBNS.

Local TMC leaders, however, denied their involvement in the incident.
