New Delhi, Apr 6 (IBNS) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday launched the first national Air Quality Index here and said India has always given importance to the issue of conserving nature even as the world feels that the country is not bothered about environment.

He said India can take the lead and guide the world in thinking of different ways to protect the environment and fight against climate change.

"The world feels that we are not bothered about environment. However, we have grown up in those traditions where Nature is worshipped and where conserving nature is very important," Modi said.

"We need  to take the lead in thinking of ways of protecting the environment," he said.

"We have no right to exploit nature. This is not a part of our culture," he said.

He said India's traditional methods can be essential in dealing with environment issues.

Raising the issue of cleaning Ganges, Modi said: "The issue of clean Ganga is as much about those living on the banks of the Ganga in the various states."
