WB: Police raid opposition leader's wife's NGO office

Kolkata, Mar 11 (IBNS): The anti -corruption branch of the West Bengal Police on Wednesday raided the NGO office of Usha Mishra, who is the wife of Bengal's opposition leader Suryakanta Mishra, in West Medinipur district over alleged financial irregularities.

Usha Mishra runs a NGO named Bhagawati Devi Nari Kalyan Samity which works on AIDS related issues across West Midnapore district.

The anti- corruption branch has issued a case under the Prevention of Corruption Act 1988 on Mar 9 against Usha Mishra and other four directors of the NGO including Bina Das and Kartick Acharya.

According to reports, they have been charged for cheating, fabrication and conspiracy.

Usha Mishra denaied all charges against her and the NGO.

"This is a political conspiracy and TMC government is doing such things with their police force when CPI-M is holding its state conference in Kolkata," she said.

CPI-M MP Md. Salim told IBNS that it was an political vendetta.

"This incident is neither new or unexpected, we are habituated with such actions by the ruling party," he said.
