WB: Explosion kills one in Durgapur
Kolkata/Burdwan, Sept 17 (IBNS): An explosion killed one and injured three others at Bharati Road area under Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissionerate in Burdwan district of West Bengal on Thursday, reports said.
According to reports, the explosion occurred in an electronic goods repairing shop in Durgapur Steel Township area in Burdwan district on Thursday morning when few men were working inside the shop.
One worker Pappu Ram (35) was killed in the explosion and three others were injured. They have been admitted in Burdwan Medical College and Hospital.
Police force and bomb disposal squad personnel rushed to the spot. The Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissioner Ajay Nand and Additional Commissioner Shubhankar Maity also visited the place.
Police arrested the owner of the shop- Shankar Keout from the area and he will be produced to the court on Friday, one police official said.
However, police seized two containers full of explosives and defused those near Durgapur Airstrip later. Police also collected few samples from the spot and investigators are suspecting that the nature of the explosive is Improvised Explosive Device (IED).
Asansol-Durgapur Police Commissioner Ajay Nand told IBNS, "Police have started investigation into the matter and we are interrogating arrested Shankar Keout. A forensic expert team will visit the spot tomorrow."
