Want Indo-China border tension to end: Rajnath Singh after 'Shastra Puja'

New Delhi/IBNS: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday said India wants peace along the border with China but also assured countrymen that Indian soldiers won't let anyone take away an inch of land.

Singh made the remarks after performing "Shastra Puja", the customary worship of weapons, which is performed near the China border on the occasion of Dussehra.

Singh was scheduled to perform the puja at Sherathang, a high-altitude border barely 2 km away from the Line of Actual Control (LAC) with China in Sikkim but he could not reach the spot due to inclement weather, officials said.

The Defence Minister was accompanied by Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane during the "Shastra Puja" at the Sukna War Memorial in Darjeeling.

Speaking to media after the ceremony, Singh said: "India's brave soldiers have sacrificed their lives (for India's safety). We want that the Indo-China border tension should end and peace should be preserved. But unpleasant incidents keep happening. However, I am confident that our soldiers will not let anyone take even an inch of our land... History will remember the courage of Indian soldiers."

The "Shastra Puja" near the Line of Actual Control (LAC) comes amid the standoff with China in eastern Ladakh.
