Voting begins in Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh

Aizawl/Bhopal, Nov 28 (IBNS): Voting has started in Mizoram and Madhya Pradesh where people are exercising their franchise to elect a new Assembly on Wednesday.

Security has been tightened in both the states for the polling.

In Madhya Pradesh, 5.04 crore voters are expected to decide the fate of the 230-member assembly.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan is contesting to seek a fourth term in power.

He is ruling the state since 2005.

Fates of as many as 2,899 candidates, including 1,094 independents, will be decided on Wednesday.

The Congress will be contesting to come to power in the state, ending the dominance of BJP in the political paradigm of Madhya Pradesh.

In Mizoram, people are voting to decide the fates of  209 candidates who are contesting to find a place in the 40-member legislative assembly.  

Voting began at 7 am and will continue till 4 pm.

The Congress has been ruling the state for two terms.

The main contest is between Congress and Mizo National Front, BJP, National People’s Party.

CM Lal Thanhawla is contesting the polls from  Serchhip and Champhai South seats.
