Kolkata, Oct 1 (IBNS) The Vice Chancellor of Vishva Bharati University in West Bengal's Santiniketan has resigned from his post after being served with a show-cause notice sent by the Human Resource Development Ministry, reports said.

Dr Sushanta Dutta Gupta said that has sent his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee and has also sought a hearing from the President.

The Ministry led by Union Minister Smriti Irani had reportedly sent the notice to Vice-Chancellor of Vishva Bharati University asking him why he should not be removed from the post for alleged financial and administrative irregularities, as found by a three-member panel set up by the ministry.

If his resignation is accepted Dr Dutta Gupta could be first Vice Chancellor of the Central university to be asked to quit.
